Today, the committees are in full swing. They met all day, completing the preliminary readings and statements by overture advocates and listening to others who wished to speak to the various overtures. The committee that is considering Marriage and Civil Unions had so many people wishing to speak, that they had to resort to a lottery arrangement, else they would be listening for the entire week and have no time to act. This is a good time to pray for our commissioners that they have patience, presence of mind, endurance and attentiveness to the Holy Spirit. This is an intense time for all (though not without smiles, as Mickey evidences in the photo, below).

The overture that Cherokee Presbytery concurred with is being considered by Committee #6, Church Orders and Ministry. They are anticipating action sometime tomorrow afternoon on this and other issues on their docket.
This afternoon, I attended a discussion by Phyllis Tickle, author of “The Great Emergence.” If you’ve not read the book, I highly recommend it. The conversation was exciting, disturbing and provocative.
Tomorrow morning will be another opportunity for worship, and tomorrow evening, our commissioners and some Cherokee ex-patriots (Rev. Ray Jones, Rev. McKenzie) and other of our members here at GA will gather for a supper and time of sharing… so, don’t be surprised if I don’t post again until Wednesday.
Shalom y’all,
Rebecca
