Mission Team

The purpose of the Mission Team is to facilitate the presbytery in its responsibilities to encourage,
coordinate, and resource mission common to the presbytery.

Mission is central life of Christians. Through mission we seek together to proclaim in word and deed the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The center of mission work in the presbytery is the local congregation, mission, or fellowship. Networking, partnership, interpretation, and challenge are the central tasks of the Mission Team.  Congregations provide leadership support and resources for mission. The presbytery’s work in mission must foster and network these congregational efforts so that together we can accomplish more than we can apart.  Covenant relationships have long been important in the mission work of Cherokee Presbytery. These covenants bind congregations to one another and connect us with other mission partners including the synod, and General Assembly.  Without vision we will fail to step up to the tasks of mission before us. The Mission Team serves to challenge the whole of presbytery with the needs of our times. This prophetic role includes the identification of emerging and un-served communities in our presbytery, and raising social mission concerns in our presbytery and around the world.

MISSIONAL GOAL

To enact the vision of “One Church, 41 branches, united in mission throughout Cherokee Presbytery and beyond our bounds, sharing congregational ministries with one another.” the Mission team will:

  • Networking and connecting congregational mission efforts
  • Coordinating mission approved by the presbytery
  • Oversee emerging missions based on the following criteria:
    • Sponsoring team participants must be members of three or more congregations
    • Mission must be consistent with Scripture, the Constitution of the PC(USA), the vision and mission statements of the presbytery, and the core values of the presbytery
    • Mission must be outside the oversight of any other ministry team
    • Mission must be endorsed by the presbytery annually.
  • Oversight may include
    • International partnerships
    • Presbyterian Women
    • Presbyterian Answer to Hunger (PATH)
    • Peacemaking

MISSIONS WITHOUT MONEY
