Celebration & Hospitality Team

The purpose of the Celebration and Hospitality Team (C&H Team) is to celebrate disciples whose
words and actions demonstrate the proclamation of God’s Kingdom in the world.
The Celebration & Hospitality Team oversees these tasks:
- Welcoming and integrating presbyters
- Expressing appreciation
- Pastoral Care of Clergy
- Congregational Care
- Presbytery Fellowship
The Celebration & Hospitality Ministry Team shall have a membership of six (6) members elected by the presbytery in three classes of three years each with an equal number of clergy and laypersons. Additional team participants may be co-opted as deemed appropriate by the Celebration & Hospitality Ministry Team to accomplish its missional goals and oversight tasks.
WELCOMING AND INTEGRATING PRESBYTERS
It is the responsibility of the C&H Team to collaborate with the presbytery moderator to determine that new clergy and first time commissioners are welcomed into presbytery meetings so that they might be full participants in the meetings. The C&H Team will facilitate the integration of all new clergy members into the Cherokee Presbytery community of faith.
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
Publicly recognizing and expressing appreciation to clergy who are leaving active service with the presbytery due to transferring membership, retirement, and/or death. Also, to publicly recognize and express appreciation to elders who are leaving active service with the presbytery due to ending term of service and/or death.
PASTORAL CARE OF CLERGY AND CHURCH PROFESSIONALS
The presbytery is the community of faith to which all PC(USA) clergy belong. The Christian
community offers pastoral care to its members in their personal and communal life. Therefore, the
presbytery has a particular responsibility for its clergy members as well as other church professionals.
The C&H Team provides pastoral care to church professionals in all of life’s circumstances, offering:
- Prayer, visits, and other acts which express love and support for those who are sick and for their families
- The ministry of presence in times of loss as well as sharing faith and hope in the power of the resurrection
- Healing and support for those who are caught up in the hurts, hostilities, and conflicts of daily living
- Opportunities to acknowledge the reality of sin and hear the good news of God’s love and grace.
PRESBYTERY FELLOWSHIP
The spiritual fellowship of the children of God is one of the great ends of the Church. Because meetings of the presbytery are first and foremost gatherings of the larger church, it is incumbent that presbyters experience in those assemblies spiritual fellowship in addition to being times when business is accomplished. The law and government of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) presuppose the fellowship of women and men with their children in voluntary covenanted relationship with one another and with God through Jesus Christ. The organization rests upon the fellowship and is not designed to work without trust and love.
In order to work together in trust and love, presbyters must first form relationships with one another. In order to accomplish this, the C&H Team will:
- Provide opportunities at each stated meeting of presbytery for presbyters to interact as a fellowship of believers.
- Provide opportunities annually for the rich variety of forms, practices, languages, programs, and service observed throughout the congregations and fellowships of the presbytery to be expressed and experienced by the presbyters.
