Presbyterian Women

Presbyterian Women LogoWelcome to Cherokee Presbytery’s PW Website!
Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered By the Holy Spirit we commit ourselves: to nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study, to support the mission of church worldwide, to work for justice and peace, and to build inclusive, caring community of women that strengthens the Presbyterian Church (USA) and witnesses to the promise of God’s kingdom.

The Cherokee Presbytery PW Coordinating Team stands ready to support and assist our local churches in any way possible. Every church – from the smallest to the largest – has its own unique flavor of PW yet we are united through common study, service, fellowship and nurture. The tie that binds us is our love of God and our fellow sisters in Christ. It is our goal to keep you abreast of Synod, Presbytery, and local church PW news so that we all may feel connected to the larger Church as Presbyterian Women. Please feel free to contact any PWCT team member with joys, concerns, and suggestions as together we delight in serving the Lord. May your time shared as PW be a blessing to you and yours!

Yours in Christ,
Nancy Collins,
Cherokee Presbytery PW Moderator

Mission Opportunities for PW:

Giving to MISSION has always been important to Presbyterian Women.  The PW pledges we make to GA, Synod, Presbytery, our Local Churches, and Presbyterian Campus Ministries are used to carry on the work of the church worldwide.  Our Cherokee Presbytery PW would like to emphasize the below Mission Projects which are examples of providing income to individuals and neighbors, both local and far away, so they can have an income; it is not a “hand-out” but a “hand-up”.  Small gifts and offerings from us can (and do) multiply.

  • Baby Layette for newborns in Africa  Gifts encourage women to bring newborn babies to  hospital to be checked out.  Patterns available from past-moderator Barbara Elliott barbara1917@bellsouth.net or 706-506-2422.
  • “Little Things Bring Hope”
    • SHEETS any size, color…give to Missions Coordinator, collected at your church & delivered to a central location such as Presbytery office. 600 sheets can stock a 100 bed hospital for 3 years
    • Golf Cart for CRC…this is a new project which we can contribute to and our group will be one of the first to benefit from this purchase. Your PW council contributed $50.00 towards this; this was from monies left over from last Gathering.
    • Local Church Projects: You are encouraged to support your communities; just let us know what you are doing so we can publicize it in the CHEROKEE CHAT or on the Presbytery’s website.
    • Cards available for gifts throughout the year for Congo Missions.
    • Give a gift to missions as a “thank-you”, “get-well” or “congratulations.”
  • NetWorkers Mosquito Nets-a project designed to fight the terrible Scourge of malaria.  A donation of $10 buys a pregnant woman and her infant a mosquito net, treated with insecticide.  This is a joint project of PW & International Health Ministries.
  • Moringa Tree Project—PCUSA & Medical Benevolence program in the Congo to fight malnutrition.  The cost of each tree is $1 and it is ready to harvest in 9 months.  Every part of the tree is used.
  • Palm Project in the Congo – Palm oil is important for nutrition and economic purposes.  Cost is $20 a tree; $10 buys a short, fast growing palm tree in the Congo. PW will expand this project this year to buy the presses and other equipment.  $109,000.00 given so far!
  • Presbyterian Campus Ministries – There are a variety of ways to support Presbyterian Campus Ministry on college campuses within our Presbytery and beyond. Providing home-cooked meals for students, prayer partners, financial gifts, leadership training, and more.
    • PSF @ Berry College (Presbyterian Student Fellowship), directed by Sheri Grove
    • Celtic Cross PCM @ Kennesaw State University, directed by Dan W. Boles
    • PCM of GEORGIA, a network of Presbyterian Campus Ministries throughout Georgia
  • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance – Gifts of the Heart School Kits, etc. Find lists of needed items on the PDA website.  Package all items in a complete kit & add $3 per kit for shipping.

Send all Mission Offerings to:
