Many people throughout Cherokee Presbytery have expressed an interest in learning about and effectively using social media. I’ve also noticed that workshops on such topics at various conferences and organizational gatherings are increasingly popular. So I’d like to share with you a few opportunities that are coming up…
Opportunity #1: Explore social media without ever leaving your office! The Presbyterian Communicators Network (PCN) is hosting a free webinar on social media next Tuesday, March 16, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. (Eastern). The webinar will be taught by two of colleagues, social-media-savvy PC(USA) staff members: Dianna Ott and Dana McMahan. This will be an overview and broad introduction to social media, followed by plenty of time to ask specific questions of Dianna and Dana about how you might like to use social media in your ministry context.
To participate, you will need a computer with a fast Internet connection and a phone. If you are interested in attending, send an email to Alyssa Harley by close of business on Friday, March 12 with your name, email and phone number.
Opportunity #2: “Plug In Without Shorting Out” is an educational workshop to be hosted by Presbytery of Des Moines April 16-18, 2010. Workshop speakers will help participants to embrace technology without blowing up the church! This three-day conference is sponsored by the Transformation Team of the Des Moines Presbytery and will be held at the Downtown Marriot. Cost is $150 if registering before March 15. Small and rural church members are encouraged to attend. Go to www.presbyteryofdesmoines.org to learn more and register. You can also let them know you’re coming on facebook. (note: You will still have to complete the registration form!)
Opportunity #3: I am planning to lead a workshop at the Fall Leadership Event in August. If it is approved, the workshop will cover the basics of Communications; what are the must haves, why your church/ministry should have a website, why you should consider social media as part of your communications strategy and more. If you are considering attending this workshop, you’re welcome to email me your questions in advance, which will help me tailor the workshop to meet as many needs as possible and still cover the content.
Blessed be!
