Calvary Presbyterian Church was organized in June of 1959 by Cherokee Presbytery. Ridley G. Smith was the organizing pastor. Over the years it has been a community congregation. It has served the community in many ways. It has done so by sharing its resources including building and grounds. It has supported community activities like Habitat for Humanity, the Cobb Winter Shelter and MUST. It housed and supported the Young Parents Support Center which was a free daycare service to High School parents so that they could complete their education. Calvary began as an all white congregation in an all white middle class community. As the community changed, Calvary has also changed. Although predominately Caucasian, there are African-American members and members from Africa and South America. Not only racially diverse, it is also economically diverse. In 1993 a new sanctuary was completed along with additional restrooms, office space and a conference room. Currently Calvary is sharing its facilities with a Spanish Seventh Day Adventists congregation.
